a thing unbroken
by Sophia Harvey
There is a tension created
By something that wont break
But must.
It goes against common wisdom
And the rules through which we carve our place in a world
To break a thing unbroken.
And however unwise the wisdom
Or unfounded the rules
We follow them.
And why?
When it aches to be broken
And there must be a reason–
But when the now unbroken thing
Lies in pieces on the kitchen floor
Is it common courtesy to sweep it aside,
Never taking time to relish the crack?
aching for brokenness
to reveal inside
free at last
relishing the cracks is so helpful.
Reminds me of the line from one of Jewel’s songs, about how “nature has a funny way of breaking/ what does not bend”. Well written, Sophie.
“And however unwise the wisdom
Or unfounded the rules
We follow them.”
The truth in that is almost palpable!
Ambiguously open-ended. I like it!
This one took me out of any kind of lyrical element. I really liked how it flowed so nicely in spite of it all. Really am enjoying your posts. Keep it coming.
